Welcome to "Phil's Loco Photos"

A twelve day trip to Egypt was started with flights from Manchester via Frankfurt to Cairo. We went direct to our hotel in Cairo which we were booked in for the entire trip. Next morning we went to main station to get timetables and try to get to grips with the very hectic system. We did a trip north on the main line to Alexandria and a quick extra move on a couple of suburban trains before returning to Cairo. Next day we went north to Tanta and then out and back to Damankur and then returned to Cairo. A trip to the north west next day with train to Bir Sa'id, then to Ismailia and El Suweis and finally to Cairo Ain Shams. During the day great view of Suez Canal and the massive ships that pass through. The next morning we went to Ramses main station to book long distance tickets to Aswan for the overnight which we did ok, the 878 km journey taking twelve hours, all in a comfy sleeper. Once at Aswan we got a hotel and then took local train to El Sadd El Aali to see the High Dam which was most impressive, we returned with the local train to Aswan. Next day was a start for the very long thirteen hour journey back north to Cairo. On the Sunday morning we met a traction contact at the station and then did a circular trip via Benha and Minuf to return to Cairo and to El Giza for the hotel. We planned a works visit next morning and after that it was off to see the Pyramids. Early start next day with another circular bash via Dumyat, El Mansura, El Mansura, Shubra el Kheima and then into Kubry El Lemon station at Cairo. On our last day we took the northbound westerly route to Itay El Beroud and then to Alexandria for a fast train back to Cairo. Then to El Giza and back to the hotel and then to airport for our flight home via Frankfurt
