Welcome to "Phil's Loco Photos"

A two week trip to the Balkans started with two days in Turkey, travelling from Haydarpasa to Ankara then the day train to Zonguldak where I found DE21500s active on freight trains. I then took the bus to Adapazari and train to Haydarpasa and then night train to Pythion and into Greece, premier MLW power from Alexandroupoulis - Thessaloniki was excellent. After a night trip to Paleofarcelos I made the long journey north to Sofia and a sleeper on the overnight to Romania. Once in Bucuresti I went to Craiova and met up with friends for a couple of days. I left Craiova very early and took the ferry from Calafat to Vidin and the the slow boring train down to Sofia where I had a one hour connection onto a train to Kulata, with 07 power south of Dupnitza but it failed at Blagoevgrad and 06 power forward. I walked over the border to Promachon and then a taxi to Strimon. Could easily hear A-454 long before it arrived and took it to Drama for the balancing train back to Thessaloniki and then south to Athens. A day on narrow gauge and also a trip on the rack line from Diakopto - Kalavrita, then back to Athens. Northbound overnight to Thessaloniki and then a day on the Kozani line with mostly Alco power and stayed there the night. We had A-304 back to Thessaloniki next day and then a couple of local afternoon moves after a shed visit and then a hotel for the night. I had MLW power to Serres and then fell into A-304 all the way to Alexandroupoulis and then into Turkey and my flight back home
