Welcome to "Phil's Loco Photos"

A nineteen day trip around the Balkans started with a flight to Budapest and due to a diversion went via Kötegyán - Salonta from Békéscaba into Romania. I went as far as Caracal to stay with friends for a day. I continued with “Transbalkan” for journey into Bulgaria and stayed at Pleven. Next day I picked up new 07 on the Tojan line and then had depot visit at Gorna Orjahovica before going to Karlovo for the night. Went to Sofia next day to join others and did overnight to Kardam and then to Samuel to cover the three 07 turns and then sleepers to Sofia. Moved on to the Plovdiv area and did the fast evening train to Momchilgrad with 07 power and back next day with 06, and to Plovdiv and then 07009 to Saedinenie and then to Dimitrovgrad for night. Next day it was back to Sofia and then north to do Lom - Brusarci line before taking the overnight to Thessaloniki. I went straight to Edessa as my base for few days of photos of the sugar beet trains, many with leased BDZ 07 power. I took overnight to Athens and did Chalkis branch as hauled with nice new IC stock and then Alco bash to Korinthos and back. Worked my way back north in into Bulgaria via Svilengrad where I stayed a night. Back to Caracal then and on to Budapest for flight home
