A twelve day trip to South Korea to travel on the wonderful Korail network using the very good value Korail pass. Almost all lines were covered during the trip. The new class 8500 locos were starting to enter service meaning the last days of some of the Alsthom built electric locos. We had a pre-arranged visit to Jecheon depot to see the new class 8500 and also the elderly 8000 locos. Many trains still remain diesel hauled by the GT26 GM diesel locos on almost all lines throughout the country. By chance we also stumbled across a rare diesel working over the Jochiwon - Jecheon electric line one evening. The elderly DHC diesel trainsets were either being dragged by GT26 on our first few days and later on the sets had power cards removed and were operating as convention loco hauled trains, the Saemaeul carriages being extremely comfortable to travel in
