Welcome to "Phil's Loco Photos"

A one week trip to the US and Canada starting with a flight on a Virgin 747-400 from Heathrow - Newark, an incredibly fast exit through customs and up to New York to stay with friends for my first night. After a round trip on AEM7 electrics to Newark I went north along the Hudson with premier Genesis power to Albany-Rensselaer, I then did a FL9 to Rhinecliff-Kingston for another Genesis back to Albany-Rensselaer where I stayed the night. Next day an FL9 south to Poughkeepsie where a quick out and back trip to New Hamburg got me an FL9+F10 out for pair of F10 locos back, most successful fill in. It was then north on “Adirondack” for the journey to Montréal. Thank to an early arrival I was able to cover more of the CN commuter trains than intended, and was amazed to find all trains being worked by GP9 locos past Portal Heights, the usual vintage electric locos were dragging the trains through the tunnel. I did around trip to Deux-Montagnes and then had a pair of VIA F9 locos to Ahuntsic where I stayed the night. Next day a taxi to Vertu and some more elderly GP9 and electric action before a round trip to Ottawa on F40 power, and then the fast evening train "67" from Montréal - Toronto with premier LRC Alco power. I stayed two nights in the "Royal York" hotel (at a great price), the first day was chasing GO Rail F59PH power and a trip up the CN tower, I the bitter cold! Some photos in the evening rush hour before my second night of luxury in the hotel. Next day early start, intending to had to Chicago on the "International" as far as Kalamazoo for the “Lake Cities” to Toledo. I picked up “Lake Shore Limited” there for my return journey to New York. Thankfully Genesis power into the "Big Apple" and then managed to talk myself onto a fast "Metroliner" train (125 mph) with a powerful AEM7 "Meatball" to Washington. I then did a pair of Genesis on the “Crescent” to Alexandria and then an F40 to Frederiksburg for the night. Next morning I did three VRE commuters and the pair of Genesis into Washington for a new E60 forward to Baltimore, then a fast regional train to New York. A new Genesis to Croton-Harmon for one of the elusive FL9AC locos back in. A bus to JFK for an old and most uncomfortable 747 back to Heathrow!
